Pirates ready for defense of SCAC Title

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Just one week after facing Texas Lutheran at home the Pirates will take on the Bulldogs once again, this time as the No. 5 seed in the SCAC Championship. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. at the Gold Dome in Shreveport, La.

This is the first meeting between the two in the SCAC Championship, but third meeting this season with Southwestern dropping the first two contests. SU fell on January 2nd 86-71 and closed the regular season last Friday with a 72-50 loss.

First-year head coach Lori Morris will be missing the main parts of the squad that won the 2015 SCAC Championship but retains some key components. Southwestern is led on the court by 2015 SCAC All-Tournament Team selection and senior guard Audrey Garcia who averages 14.6 points per game, third most in the SCAC. Junior guard Olivia Podaras complements Garcia and gives the Pirates a one-two punch offensively.

Some things, however, have not changed. For the second consecutive year, Southwestern posted the best rebounding margin in the league, averaging 5.6 more boards per game than their opponents in 2016. First-year forward Tori Carraway ranks third in the SCAC with 6.8 rebounds per contest.
