GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- The Women's basketball team made the short trip to play the Concordia Texas Tornados for their 2023-24 season opener. 

Aniyah Burke got things going early for the Pirates and Emily Jasek hit an early three-pointer as the Pirates ended the first quarter with a two-point lead. The Tornados finished off the second quarter with a great run and went into halftime with a six-point lead. They extended their lead to ten late in the third quarter, but the Pirates battled back. The Pirates forced seven of Concordia's nineteen total turnovers in the fourth quarter and with 2:49 left in the game, Southwestern had their largest lead of the game, 48-43. The finished with nine steals for the game, five of which came from the fourth quarter alone. Concordia would regain the lead and ultimately held off the Pirates, for a 57-53 final. 

Aniyah Burke led all scorers with 18 points, and Lauren Stevens contributed 12 points. Emily Jasek led the Pirates in rebounds with 8.
