Women's Basketball Scores Season-High In Win

ALPINE, Texas — Junior Reece Sandercock scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Southwestern women's basketball team to a 76-65 victory over the University of the Southwest (N.M.) Mustangs. 

Four players scored in double figures for Southwestern, who outscored Southwest every quarter to finish with a season-high point total. 

The starters set the tone in the first quarter, with Jada Hollie scoring seven of her 14 points and Lauren Fulenwider hitting a pair of 3-pointers to push the Pirates out to a 19-14 lead. Sandercock went to work in the second quarter, scoring eight of Southwestern's 13 points off the bench to give the Pirates a 32-25 lead at halftime. 

Southwestern further found its rhythm in the third quarter with no turnovers and Princess Roberts and Sandercock combining for 11 points to help the Pirates outscore the Mustangs 23-20. Southwestern held Southwest at bay in the fourth quarter with a 12-for-15 performance from the free-throw line. 

Sandercock scored her 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting, hitting 5-of-6 free throws. Hollie added six rebounds and a steal to her 14 points. Roberts finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Fulenwider had 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting, including 4-for-6 from deep. 

Southwestern improves to 3-4 with the victory. The Pirates will return to action on Nov. 30 in a road game against Concordia.
