Women's Basketball Falls at Home to Trinity

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Turnovers shortcircuited the Southwestern women's basketball offense, and Trinity's Maggie Shipley did the rest, dominating inside to lead the Tigers to an 80-56 win over the Pirates. 

In the first quarter, Trinity set the tone with an aggressive defense, forcing seven Southwestern turnovers, including five steals, while holding the Pirates to 4-for-21 shooting to take a 23-10 lead in the first quarter. 

Southwestern found its footing and composure in the second quarter, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Lauren Fulenwider and eight points on 4-for-4 shooting from Reece Sandercock to reel off a 22-14 run and pull within 37-32 at the half. 

Shipley responded with a solid third-quarter performance, scoring 12 of her 29 points on eight shots, while Trinity forced nine more turnovers, including seven of the live-ball variety, to pull away with a 23-12 run for the 60-43 lead. 

Trinity remained relentless in the fourth quarter, picking up four steals and shooting 45 percent from the field, with Shipley and Ashlyn Milton combining for 11 points before both teams cleared their benches. 

The Tigers outscored the Pirates 54-26 in the paint with a 43-3 advantage in points off turnovers, forcing 33 turnovers. 

Sandercock scored 13 points on eight shots with 10 rebounds for the double-double. Fulenwider added 12 points on four 3-pointers. Princess Roberts led the team with 13 rebounds while contributing nine points, two blocks, and two steals. 

Southwestern drops to 8-8 with a 4-4 conference record. Trinity improves to 15-2 with an 8-0 conference record. The Pirates will travel to Seguin, Texas, on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
