GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern and Trinity faced off in the first two games of a crucial four game series to decide first place on Friday. The Pirates won game one in decisive fashion, with an 8-0 run-rule victory and fell in game two 4-2.

The Pirates wasted no time and scored in the first inning after 3B Katelyn Gola reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base to move into scoring position for LF Blair Wallace. Wallace battled to a full count and fought off 8 foul balls in the process before poking one past the short stop to drive in Gola for the first run. Wallace moved into scoring position on the attempted play at home and gave 1B Kat Hoover the opportunity to drive her in on a base hit to short. After one inning SU led 2-0.

After retiring three straight in the top of the second and third innings the Pirates got back to work offensively and pushed two more across the plate in each inning to increase their lead to 6-0.

SU scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the run rule game one victory 8-0. Kaitlyn Pavlicek pitched a one hit, shut out to earn the win to improve to 9-5 while Trinity's Losey garnered the loss to fall to 6-7.

The Tigers scored first in game two. Singles by Garrett and Williams put runners on first and second with two outs. Wright's single to centerfield brought around Garrett to give Trinity the early 1-0 lead.

Wallace's two-out walk in the bottom of the inning got things rolling for Southwestern. Wallace moved into scoring position on a passed ball and was brought home on a single up the middle by Pavlicek to even the game up at one.

SU captured the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single to right center by Kat Hoover that drove in Gola and put the Pirates up 2-1.

In the top of the fifth inning Trinity recaptured the lead. MacPherson had a one out infield single and stole second base to get things rolling.
