GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University softball team dropped their last series game against Trinity University 10-4 this Sunday afternoon.

Trinity scored the first run of the game to gain the early lead. Southwestern struggled to make it past home plate. The Trinity defense kept the Pirates at bay for the next few innings and even hit another run on the Pirates in the top of the third.

Moving into the fifth inning, the Tigers scored two more runs to extend their lead 4-0, but the Pirates finally broke through Trinity's defense in the bottom of the fifth. With two Pirates on second and third base, Kathryn Dull singled up the middle to allow Maddie Mefford to score the first run for the Pirates. Next, Izzy Richey came up to bat and took advantage of reaching 1st base off of an error by the shortstop and Alex Fletes then brought in the second run for the Pirates before ending the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, Trinity answered back with two runs brought in by their first baseman who doubled and earned two RBI's. Southwestern's pitcher Paige Rassmusen quickly ended the inning so the Pirates could have a chance at bat and once again, Dull fired the ball to center field to double and hit in two more runs for the Pirates. Trinity quickly shut down the Pirates from scoring any more runs in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh inning, Trinity solidified their win by scoring three more runs, resulting in Trinity taking the final series game win 10-4.

The Southwestern Pirates softball team are now 8-10 in SCAC play and 11-18 overall. Kathryn Dull was the only Southwestern player to earn any RBI's as she slugged in three for the Pirates. Pitcher Kinly McCaffrey threw two strikeouts to add to her season total of 34 and is now ranked eighth in the conference for strikeouts.

Up next, the Pirates will play their last SCAC conference series against the Austin College Roos next weekend on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 in Sherman, Texas.
