Aggressive and Smart Play Lead To Sweep VS. Trinity

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- The Pirates opened up their conference play with a series versus Trinity Tigers at Taylor-Sanders Field. 

The Tigers came into this series with a 2-12 record while the Pirates' were coming off of back-to-back wins versus Piedmont and an 8-12 record. The Pirates jumped out two a 3-run lead in the second inning and were able to add 3 more runs in the third of Game 1. Madison Vela helped maintain control of the game while pitching the complete game and only allowing 6 hits. The pirates went on to win Game 1, 6-0. 

The following day, the Pirates hosted Trinity for a doubleheader; this time, Trinity took control of the game early on. In the bottom of the 6th, Kathryn Dull Doubled, bringing in freshman Calle Collier for the Pirates' only score of the day. Southwestern was within reach and only trailed by 1 run as they had their last three at-bats for the game. Yanta, Nevarez, and Gonzales all battled their way on base. Coach Lynn decided to bring in power hitter, Meghan McCarthy, as a Pinch Hitter. McCarthy took her time stepping into the batter's box and looked to be completely ready for the moment. With the game on the line, she certainly delivered as she hit a perfectly placed ball to right field and was able to bring in two runs for the win! Madison Vela pitched another complete game for Game 3 and the Pirates were able to hold on for the sweep of the series, winning 3-2. 

 

Next up for the Pirates is a series versus Dallas, starting at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 25.
