Senior Day Sweep Versus Schreiner

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS- The Southwestern University Pirates hosted the Schreiner Mountaineers for a three games series at Taylor-Sanders Field. 

Coming into the series the Mountaineers had a record of 14-15 and the Pirates were looking to snap a 6-game losing streak with a record of 1-18. Game 1 went back and forth until the very end. The Pirates went completely through their batting lineup and found themselves up, 4-0. In the 2nd, Saenz singled bringing in Calle Collier for the score. Riley Glenn-Milhouse was able to bring Samantha Saenz in and they ended the 2nd inning up 6-0. Schreiner got things going with a two-run homer in the 3rd but the Pirates were still in control. At the top of the 6th, the Mountaineers went on a huge run and took the lead for the first time of the game. Tied going into the 7th inning, Madison Vela and the defense held them scoreless. And with some great hitting and base running, the Pirates found themselves with the bases loaded and Senior Samantha Martinez upto bat. Martinez hit it right up the middle, bringing in Alex Fletes for the score and the win!

The Pirates went on to sweep the Series versus Schreiner. Game 2 was 6-4 and Game 3 ended early as the Pirates took control early and never let Schreiner make a run. Pirates won 12-4. 

Samantha Saenz has been named SCAC Hitter of the Week! Saenz led the SCAC last week with a blistering .727 batting average, going 8-for-11 at the plate to lift Southwestern to a key series sweep over Schreiner at home. She collected a hit in all three contests, including five in the opener. Her five hits are tied for the second most in a single game in SCAC history. In addition, Saenz drove in four runs, collecting at least one RBI in all three contests, scored three times, and walked twice to post an impressive .769 batting average.

The Pirates are now 16-18 and travel to play a series versus Austin College starting April 21.
