Softball Closes Regular Season With A Loss

KERRVILLE, Texas — Southwestern softball surrendered seven runs in the fourth inning to drop its final regular-season game 11-3 to the Schreiner Mountaineers in five innings. 

The Pirates took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Schreiner pitcher Marley Hilton struggled with control to start the game, walking Southwestern's first two hitters, Jodi Millhouse and Erica Otto. Maddie Mefford capitalized with a two-RBI double. 

Southwestern added another run in the top of the second with an Otto RBI single, scoring Sav Frieze, who led the inning off with a walk. 

Pirates' starting pitcher Mattigan Aga walked three in the second inning, surrendering a run on a fielder's choice before being replaced by Paige Rasmussen, who got out of the inning. 

Schreiner reeled off a walk and three consecutive hits, including a two-RBI double by Elicia Gonzales and a sacrifice fly from Carrie Fulton to give Schreiner the lead. 

Southwestern struggled with control in the fourth inning, walking eight Mountaineers and surrendering two hits, including a three-RBI double by Marisa Hernandez, ending the inning with an 11-3 lead. 

The Pirates left two stranded in the top of the fifth, ending the game by run-rule. 

Southwestern finishes the regular season 14-24 with a 9-12 conference record. The conference tournament begins on Friday, April 29, and is hosted by the University of Dallas.
