Game one remained scoreless through three and a half with each team placing one runner on base until the Pirates busted it open in the fourth. LF Blair Wallace smacked a base hit to left field and took second on a passed ball to move into scoring position. 1B Kat Hoover stepped to the plate with two outs and poked one to center field for the RBI single to drive in Wallace for the first run. DH Aly Pulver followed with a single of her own to left field, but the inning was ended with a chopper back to the pitcher and a close play at first by . The Pirates led 1-0 at the end of the fourth.

CMS made a push to even the score in the sixth with a well executed bunt and a stolen base by Morris with one out. Pitcher Kaitlyn Pavlicek was able to strike out Harvey and get Vaughn to ground out to Amanda Ambrose at short to end the threat The warning spurred the Pirates into action at the plate with Wallace lining one to center field and Hoover driving her in with a two run homerun over the left field fence to push the Pirates lead to 3-0.

The Athenas were able to load the bases with two outs, but Lopez hit a slow roller to Katelyn Gola who fielded it cleanly and stepped on third for the final out of the game.

Pavlicek earned the win for Southwestern going seven innings and allowing two hits, no runs while walking one and striking out three. Pavlicek improves to 3-4 on the season. CMS' Weingart received the loss.

Hoover led the Pirates offensively going 2-3 with one run and three RBI's in game one. Wallace also posted a 2-3 game for Southwestern.

Game two started completely different. CMS scored three in the first with a pair of singles by Harvey and Pera and a home run to left field by Munoz. Southwestern strung together a couple of singles to the left side in the bottom of the inning, but Pavlicek's hard hit up the middle was snagged by the pitcher and CMS doubled off Wallace at first to end the inning and remain up 3-0.

The Athenas continued to extend their lead in the second, posting five runs on three hits, to go up 8-0. Southwestern got runners in scoring position numerous times in the game, but were unable to push one across until the fifth in which they scored three and cut the lead to 8-3.

CMS put up five runs in the sixth and closed out the game to take the game two win, 14-3. Maus received the loss in game two for Southwestern while Cruz got the win for CMS.

Wallace led offensively for the Pirates in game two going 2-2 with one run.

The split moves the Pirates to 7-11 overall. They play again Saturday against LeTourneau University for a double-header beginning at 1:00 pm.
