PIRATES DROP TWO IN BROWNWOOD

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Southwestern University softball team dropped both games of the double header at Howard Payne University. The Pirates fell 6-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two on Sunday afternoon to fall to 6-10 overall on the season. The wins improves HPU to 12-2 on the year.

Howard Payne jumped out to a one run lead in the first inning but a two run homerun by first-year Kaitlyn Pavlicek gave the Pirates the lead, 2-1, in the fourth. HPU scored in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at two and then used two-run 5th and 6th innings to break a 2-2 tie and down defeate Southwestern 6-2 in game one.

Jenna Middleton got the win for HPU and Lyndsy Maus got the loss for Southwestern.

In game two, Howard Payne led 3-1 going into the 6th inning and Southwestern scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single to left field by first-year Kat Hoover and one run in the seventh on an RBI single by Katelyn Gola to tie the game at 3-3. HPU took the game on a double to right center field that scored the winning run.

Middleton got the win again pitching two innings of relief while Pavlicek got the loss for Southwestern.

Pavlicek led the Pirates offensively going 2-3 with one run and two RBI's on the afternoon. Gola also posted good numbers at the plate in game two going 2-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Southwestern returns home for double-headers against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday and LeTourneau on Saturday. Game one both days is slated to begin at 1:00 at Taylor-Sanders Field in Georgetown, Texas.
