Box Score

On a breezy but beautiful day in Georgetown, Texas, Southwestern left seven runners on base in game one falling 5-1 and rebounded to take game two 6-5 in the seventh inning on a single by left fielder Shelby Lujan.

Game one began with Goree's two out homerun over the left field fence to drive in Vansickle for the first Tornado runs of the game in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Blair Wallace got things rolling for the Pirates with a hard hit ball that flew past third base. Alyssa Granado came in to pinch run for Wallace and advanced to second after Kaitlyn Pavlicek singled to left field. Amanda Ambrose's line drive past the short stop loaded the bases for Taylor Turpin with one out. Turpin grounded to first who elected to throw home for the force out and Fonseca grounded out to the shortstop to end the threat.

In the fifth, Shelby Lujan's lead off double over the left fielders head set things in motion. Quincy Meeker followed with a single to right field to move Lujan to third. With runners at the corners and with no outs Concordia changed pitchers for Katelyn Gola. Gola and Wallace both popped out to the left side and Pavlicek lined out to third base to end the inning.

Concordia's Vansickle added to the Tornados lead by hitting one over the left field fence, driving in Bolton to push the lead to 4-0. A wild pitch moved scored one more to end the top half of the inning up 5-0.

Erin Fonseca started off the bottom of the seventh with a home run over the left filed fence, but that is where the rally ended and the Pirates fell 5-1 in game one.

In game two, Concordia scored in the first inning again, but a lead off double to center field by Meeker set things in motion for Southwestern. Gola hit a single to centerfield that drove in Meeker. Pavlicek followed with another single up the middle and a slight bobble by the center fielder coupled with great hustle by Gola pushed another run across the plate and at the end of one, Southwestern led 2-1.

The Pirates scored again in the second after a sacrifice fly by Meeker brought in Fonseca increasing the Pirates lead to 3-1. Concordia threatened in the fourth with a lead off single followed by a double, but Gola made a nice play to keep the runner and third and still get Yates at first for one out and the Pavlicek took care of the rest, striking out the next two batters.

SU posted one more run in the fourth, but Concordia fought back and posted two runs in the fifth to cut the Pirates lead to one, 4-3. One more run in the bottom of the sixth put the Pirates up two, 5-3 going into the final inning.

A walk, error and single by Concordia in the seventh pulled the game even at five. Kat Hoover started off the seventh by taking the pitch to right field. Ambrose laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Hoover to second. Turpin hit a bullet back to the pitcher that was caught for the second out. Kenna Dies entered to pinch hit and walked to bring up Lujan. Lujan drove the first pitch she saw into left field and a hustling Hoover scored from second base to give Southwestern the victory.

Lyndsy Maus received the loss in game one and Pavlicek earned the win in game two. Offensively for the Pirates, Lujan led the way going 3-5 with one walk and one RBI.

Southwestern will hit the road again and head to the Millsaps Tournament after a short hiatus. They take on Huntingdon College on March 13 at 11:00 am.
