Bats Quieted in Kerrville

KERRVILLE, Texas - Southwestern softball split games at Schreiner on Tuesday afternoon, posting just eight hits in two games.

Scheriner posted the first attack in the bottom of the second inning, pushing across two runs on three hits to take an early 2-0 lead over Southwestern.

The Pirates were able to even the count in the top of the fifth. Kayla Irvin's double led off the inning and Karen Ramirez brought pinch runner Linsay Biggers home one batter later with a triple. Abi O'Connor's perfectly executed squeeze bunt scored Ramirez with two outs, tying the score 2-2.

Southwestern tacked on one more the next inning to take the lead 3-2. Galloway started things off with a leadoff double and Kady Freshour's sacrifice bunt allowed Galloway to advance to third. Kaitlyn Pavlicek's sacrifice fly to deep centerfield brought Galloway home after the tagup.

Starting pitcher Lauren Zearfoss didn't allow another baserunner for the remainder of the game as the Pirates closed out for the 3-2 game one victory.

Zearfoss allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking none to earn the win. Morris garnered the loss for Schreiner.

In game two SU was able to get runners on base but had trouble bringing them around as they stranded four baserunners in the contest.

Schreiner scored the only run of the contest in the second inning on a two-out double by Ambrose that brought home Caesar who singled to lead off the inning.

Maus was strong but garnered the loss, allowing just four hits and one run with six strikeouts and no walks.

Southwestern moves to 3-2 on the year after the split and hits the road once again to face Concorida (TX) on Friday for two games beginning at 4 p.m.
