Women's Lacrosse Drops Final Regular Season Game

The Southwestern University Pirates women's lacrosse team dropped its final regular season game of the season, falling to Oklahoma Baptist 18-16 on the road.

Grace Maynard scored a career-high six goals on 10 shots but Oklahoma Baptist's Lauren McCormack answered with eight points on five goals and three assists to give Oklahoma Baptist the win.

The Pirates took a quick 2-1 lead on a pair of unassisted goals by Maynard and Johnee Wolter but Oklahoma Baptist responded with three of their own, including a pair of free position shots drawn and scored by McCormack for a 4-2 lead.

It was a game of runs as the Pirates responded three, followed by three from Oklahoma Baptist and each team ending the half with two more goals to give Oklahoma Baptist a 9-7 lead at the half.

The Pirates opened the second half with four consecutive goals, bookended by a pair of unassisted scores by Maynard, only to be matched by a 5-0 run from Oklahoma Baptist. Wolter broke up the momentum with an advantage goal before Oklahoma Baptist scored three more to take a 17-12 lead with 12:43 remaining.

Southwestern closed the game out scoring four of the final five goals with Maynard scoring three consecutive goals to bring the Pirates within two before McCormack put the game out of reach with the unassisted goal.

Oklahoma Baptist dominated draw controls with a 27-8 advantage, translating into a 38-28 edge in shots attempted. It also had a 12-4 advantage in free position shots, taking advantage of 23 Southwestern fouls.

With the loss, the Pirates end the regular season 6-5. The Pirates will compete in the SCAC Championship Tournament April 27 and 28 in Colorado Springs.
