Woolfolk Leads Pirates To Home Victory Over The Tornados

Woolfolk Leads Pirates To Home Victory Over The Tornados

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - In their first home game of the season, the Southwestern Pirates topped the Concordia Tornados with Cecily Woolfolk scoring a season-high 20 points.

In what seemed an evenly matched game, the Pirates kept pace with the Tornados, ending the first quarter with a Pirate lead of 15-12 with help from Woolfolk, who scored eight points in the first half. However, the Tornados were able to shut down the Pirates offense, keeping them to only scoring 14 points in the second quarter. Lauren Fulenwider made two threes for the Pirates, but the Tornados outscored the Pirates in the second quarter and ended the half with the lead 31-29.

Coming back into the third quarter, Fulenwider put up two more threes, while Brown and Woolfolk drew fouls to make easy buckets and gain the lead back over the Tornados. With the third quarter coming to an end, Naomi Brown set the tone by finishing with a monster block as the buzzer went off, sending the Pirates into the final quarter with the mindset to win.

Though Concordia did not give the Pirates an easy win, Woolfolk once again hit the boards hard with another seven points to help the Pirates earn their first win of the season with a score of 63-56.

In addition to her 20 points, Woolfolk also had four blocks and 14 rebounds alongside Brown, who had 12 points, two rebounds and one steal. Fulenwider was also a high scorer, putting up 12 points with four rebounds and two assists.

Up next, the Pirates travel to Brownwood, Texas, over the weekend to take on the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets on Friday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
