Late game run lifts Pirates to 72-64 win over Hanover

GEORGETOWN, Texas – After seven lead changes and the fourth tie of the game Southwestern closed the contest on a 13-4 run to defeat Hanover College Tuesday afternoon.

Southwestern took a four point lead, 31-27, into halftime and pushed the lead to eight with 4:11 left in the third quarter.

Hanover battled back and brought the game back even heading into the fourth quarter, 44-44. The fourth quarter saw two ties and two lead changes before SU gained control with the 13-4 run in the final three minutes and sealed the win from the free throw line.

Southwestern shot 37% from the floor and was led by Kelsey Faykus' 20 points on 8-17 shooting. Faykus also posted 10 rebounds to notch her first double-double of the season. Tori Carraway led all rebounders with 11 and added a team high four steals.

Defensively, the Pirates held Hanover to just 31.3% from the floor and forced them into 27 turnovers.

SU (3-6) returns to play after the holiday to host George Fox on Friday, December 30th at 3 pm.
