Historic weekend earns Bourne SCAC Player of the Week honors

After capturing the all-time SCAC career rebounding mark over the weekend, Southwestern senior forward Annie Bourne was selected as the conference player of the week. This is Bourne's second conference player of the week honor this season.

ANNIE BOURNE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Dallas, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, February 8th.

With 12 rebounds on senior night, Bourne moved atop the SCAC in career rebounds with 1,090 for her career while averaging 11.0 rebounds per game for her career. Bourne surpasses Katy Williams, who played at Austin College from 2006-2010, with 1,083 career rebounds. She is now only eight points shy of 1,000 points.

As special as that was for Bourne, her big weekend propelled the Pirates to a pair of huge wins over Trinity and Schreiner while propelling Southwestern to the top of the SCAC Standings, where they sit alone.

Bourne averaged 12.5 pts/gm over the weekend, shooting 11-for-21 from the field, 1-for-2 from behind the arch, and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She added 11.5 reb/gm and 2.5 ast/gm to complete a very well-rounded weekend.

Bourne began the weekend with a 12 points, 18 rebound outing against the Tigers in a 61-52 victory to take control of first place in the SCAC Standings. Her 18 rebound outing brought her withing five rebounds of tying the record. She would accomplish and break that against Schreiner, where she finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in the win.

For the season, Bourne leads the league with 12.2 reb/gm as well as minutes/gm with 33.4. She is third in the league in shooting percentage at 50.9% and eighth in the league in assists (50) and blocks (15).
