ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southwestern women's basketball went 11-16 (68.8%) from three point range but still fell short of upsetting #5 Washington University on Sunday night, falling 73-82. 

The Pirates came in uninhibited and came out firing from three point, draining over half of their field goals from long range. Washington attempted just one long distance shot and missed it, but got 13 points from the free throw line and took a nine point lead into the half, 45-36. 

Back to back three's by Audrey Garcia brought the Pirates even 58-58 with 12 minutes to go and SU took the lead on Madison Eschle's jumper thirty seconds later. After trading baskets, Southwestern hit a scoring drought and didn't score another field goal for the next seven minutes, allowing Washington University to pull ahead by 11, 76-65 with 2:43 to play. 

Just out of reach, the Pirates weren't able to close the gap as the Bears sealed the game from the free throw line. 

Southwestern shot 43.9% from the floor and 68.8% from three point range while holding WU to 0% from three point and 46.8% from the field. The difference maker was from the free throw line as the Bears racked up 24 points on 31 attempts while SU was just 4-10. 

Jordan Owens led the Pirates with 15 points while Chelsea Leeder and Garcia both chipped in 12. Garcia was a perfect 4-4 from three point range on the evening. WU's Melissa Gilkey led all scorers with 25 points. 

The loss drops the Pirates to 7-4 on the season. They remain in St. Louis to face Webster University on Monday afternoon.
