The Southwestern University men's basketball team has selected seniors Mike Powell (Houston, TX/Episcopal HS) and Miles Elsey (Wimberley, TX/Wimberley HS) as team captains for the 2007-2008 season.

Head Coach Bill Raleigh said of the captains, "I am very pleased with the team's choice. I expect quality leadership on and off the court from both of these players."

Powell and Elsey have combined to play in 135 games for the Pirates over the last three seasons. As juniors, they made a combined 38 starts in 26 games. The two guards will captain a team that lost just one player from last year's squad that finished 11-15 overall and 5-9 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Pirates open the season on Friday (Nov. 16) against Haverford College at the Equinox Classic being co-hosted by Haverford and Swarthore College. The game on Friday will be played in Swarthmore, PA.
