It was a heartbreaking loss for the Pirates in the Robertson Center on Friday; their second overtime loss in a row after playing Colorado College in a 78-79 contest. The Pirates battled with Schreiner all night long and forced the Mountaineers into overtime after outscoring Schreiner 33-28 in the second half.

Brock Luechtefeld led the way for the Pirates in scoring with twenty-two points, going 7-10 from the under the rim and 8-10 from the free throw line. The Pirates leaned on Luechtefeld all night as he was the Pirates' only double-digit scorer.

A heavy defensive effort from both teams yielded a first-half score of just 28-23. No player on either team would eclipse the double-digit point mark in the first. The Pirates were kept in the first half by shooting 12-17 from the free-throw line. Schreiner was able to limit their turnover to just six in the first half and shot a solid 33% from the field.

Schreiner shot even better from the field in the second half, knocking down 11-25 of their shots. However, twelve turnovers from the Mountaineers allowed the Pirates scoring opportunities. Southwestern increased their efficiency on offense in the second half from the first, shooting 56.5 percent from the field as opposed to just 20 percent in the first.

The Pirates trailed by eight points with two minutes left in the game but were able to crawl their way back to make it 56-56 and send the contest into overtime. Schreiner would never trail in OT, scoring the first points and maintaining the lead all the way to a final score of 65-62.

The Pirates turn around and face the Trinity University Tigers, who are currently on a seven-game winning streak. The game will take place Saturday, January 14th, at 6:00 PM following the women's contest.
