SHREVEPORT, La. — The Southwestern men's basketball team was buried by a barrage of 3-pointers in a 105-69 loss to the Centenary Gentlemen.
Centenary tied the SCAC record with 22 made 3-pointers, shooting 22-for-47 from the 3-point line (46.8 percent) to outscore Southwestern 66-21 from long distance. The Gents opened the game on fire, hitting and assisting on eight of their first 11 3-pointers to jump out to a 27-9 lead.
The Centenary bench did most of the damage in the first half, combining to shoot 8-for-14 from deep before the break. AJ Hall continued the barrage in the second half, hitting 6-of-8 3-pointers to finish with 34 points on 11-for-18 shooting, including 9-for-14 from behind the 3-point line.
Kyle Poerschke led Southwestern with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting and contributed seven rebounds with two blocks, two steals, and two assists. Brock Luechtefeld scored 10 points on five shots and grabbed four rebounds. Preston Hannah added 12 points on six shots off the bench.
Southwestern shot 26-for-61 (42.6 percent) from the field and committed 23 turnovers, surrendering 36 points off turnovers.
The Pirates drop to 4-9 this season with a 1-3 conference record. Southwestern will travel to face the University of Dallas on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 4:00 p.m.
