AUSTIN, Texas – Sixteen Southwestern University men's basketball players saw action and were led by Zac Black's 10-point performance in an 89-58 loss at St. Edwards University.

The tale of the tape going into the game for the Pirates (1-4) against the Hilltoppers (5-1), who are members of the NCAA Division II's Lone Star Conference, were that Southwestern needed to take care of the ball and control the battle of the boards.

Unfortunately for the Pirates, they were not able to do either as SEU outrebounded them 40-28 while committing just seven turnovers to Southwestern's 19.

After SEU scored the first basket of the game just 40 seconds into the contest, Leo Toussaint buried a three-pointer that was assisted by Jacob Hester to give Southwestern a 3-2 lead at the 18:44 mark.

It would be the only lead Southwestern would earn the entire game as SEU answered with a trey of its own that was followed by Brock Luechtefeld's layup that was assisted by Sam Lacy drew the Pirates even at 5-5 with 16:44 before halftime.

Luechtefeld's jumper in the paint at 12.56 ended a 10-0 scoring streak from the Hilltoppers but it was only a minor reprieve as SEU would race out to a 23-7 lead and eventually as much as 50-25 with 0:18 left before halftime.2

The second half would see the Pirates do everything they could to get back into the contest, but the Hilltoppers was steadily increase their lead all the way out to the final margin of 31 at 89-58.

Black added three rebounds to his team-best 10 points while Luke Hatcher added nine points.

Josh Jones and Luechtefeld added eight each.
