Kyle Poerschke Wins Second Consecutive SCAC Player of the Week

Kyle Poerschke was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for a second consecutive week for his performance in two games against Texas Lutheran University last weekend. 

Poerschke continued his hyper-efficient scoring, averaging 20.5 points on 56.3 percent shooting to lead Southwestern to a conference split with Texas Lutheran over the weekend. He also grabbed six rebounds in each of the two games and hit the game-winning shot over multiple defenders with 0.4 seconds remaining. 

The junior guard is now the conference's leading scorer at 18 points per game. He is also ninth in rebounds per game (6.7) and field goal percentage (53.0). 

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:

Sophomore guard Seth Thomas of Centenary led the Gent to a pair of home victories against Colorado College after averaging 13.5 points on 42.9 percent shooting and adding 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2.0 assists per game. In the win on Tuesday, Thomas recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds and has now scored in double-figures in seven of Centenary's eight games this season. 

Freshman forward Trey Crawford of Colorado College averaged 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games for the Tigers against Centenary. Crawford posted his first career double-double with a game-high 12 points and 11 rebounds against the Gents on Tuesday night. 

Senior forward Christian Alaekwe of St. Thomas led the Celts to a pair of key conference wins over Austin College after averaging 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. Alaekwe connected on 52.4 percent from the field and knocked down 75.0 percent of his shots from the line. 

Freshman guard Xavier Phillips of Texas Lutheran averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds over a 1-1 split at Southwestern this past weekend. Phillips scored 18 in TLU's comeback win on Friday. He hit 62.5 percent of his total shots in that win, and he shot 66.7 percent from the arc that night. In Saturday's two-point loss, he scored 10 and shot 57.1. percent from the field and 50 percent from the arc. For the weekend, he was 9-for-16 from the field (60 percent) and 4-for-7 from the arc (57.1 percent).
