KERRVILLE, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's basketball team lost 81-63 to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament Quarterfinals, ending their season.

Texas Lutheran's Jorden Kite opened the game on fire with a pair of contested 3-pointers and the Bulldogs never really cooled off, hitting 25-for-48 from the field (52.1 percent), including 12-for-26 from behind the 3-point line.

What started as quality shot making against a good Southwestern defensive effort eventually started to erode the Pirate defense, creating quality shots. The Pirates were outscored 36-15 from behind the 3-point line and 24-20 in the paint.

The Pirates were able to stay within striking distance in the first half by getting to the free-throw line early and often, trailing 46-35 at the break. For the game, the Pirates attempted 39 free throws to the Bulldogs' 26. Converting them was another matter, making just 61.5 percent of their attempts.

Southwestern center Trenton Garrett continued his string of efficient performances, leading the Pirates with 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting, working inside to get to the free-throw line 11 times, making six. Brandon Alexander contributed 12, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and finishing 5-for-13 from the field.

Reserve guard Joel Martinez was the only other Pirate in double figures, scoring 12 points with three assists, shooting 3-for-7 for the game.

Southwestern shot just 17-for-47 from the field (36.2 percent), including 5-for-17 from deep, getting outrebounded 43-26.

Caleb Lister led three Bulldogs in double figures with a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double, shooting 5-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-6 from deep. Jamir Mason finished just two assists shy of a triple-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds with eight assists, three steals, and three blocks. Sebastian Andrade added 10 points for Texas Lutheran.

With the loss, the Pirates finish 12-14 on the season and 8-10 in SCAC play. The Pirates will graduate six seniors, including Brandon Alexander, Luke Hicks, Kyle Howard, Joel Martinez, Justin McCormack, and Andrew Puhl.
