Pirates Struggle From Deep in Loss to TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates men's basketball team struggled to find its range on the road in a 77-69 loss to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs.

Southwestern was outscored 39-3 from long range, hitting just 1-for-11 (9.1 percent) from 3-point territory while Texas Lutheran converted on 39.4 percent.

Kyle Howard led the Pirates with 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting, adding seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Brandon Alexander scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, hitting 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. Preston Hannah added 11 points on nine shots off the bench.

The Pirates shot 43.6 percent from the field, assisting on just six of their 24 made field goals with 14 turnovers, surrendering 17 points.

Four of the five Bulldogs' starters scored in double figures, led by Jorden Kite's 21 points and four assists, hitting five 3-pointers. Cameron Fontenot added 11 off the bench on five shots.

The Bulldogs shot 43.3 percent from the field and 12-for-16 from the free-throw line, assisting on 19 of their 26 made field goals with 13 turnovers.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 7-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. Southwestern will return to action on Friday, Jan. 10 for a 5:30 p.m. road game against Centenary, then Sunday, Jan. 12 at noon in Houston against St. Thomas.
