GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to go up by five and never trailed the rest of the way to defeat Trinity University 71-65 to advance to the SCAC Men's Basketball Semifinals.
Southwestern trailed by five at halftime, 37-32, but Ryan Ogden's three on the opening possession got SU off on the right foot in the second half. Kyle Howard's layup with 16:22 left on the clock put SU up for the first time since 16:20 in the first half.
The Pirates held the Tigers at an arm's length the rest of the way to advance to the semifinals where they will face top-seeded Schreiner on Saturday at 5 pm.
Ogden led the way with 22 points while Joel Martinez came off the bench to chip in 16 points.
