Southwestern survives second half comeback

GEORGETOWN, Texas – After leading by as many as 18 in the second half the Pirates' men's basketball team edged out Schreiner 92-89 at home Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southwestern was hot early, shooting 75% from three point range through the first six minutes to mount a 16-4 lead.
  • After a brief run by Schreiner that brought the Mountaineers within eight with under two minutes to play, Southwestern got hot again and led by 14 at the half, 45-31.
  • Schreiner pushed back and cut SU's lead to four, 58-54, with 11:30 remaining in the second and took the lead for the first time, 61-60, on a three by Dustin Bercutt with under ten to play.
  • A perfectly executed play out of a timeout put Chris Lee wide open at the top of the key. He nailed the shot as the clock ticked under a minute, putting Southwestern up four, 83-79.
  • Southwestern was near perfect from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
