Pirates drop battle of runs 113-99 to Wayland Baptist

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern was electric early but was unable to sustain the pace as they dropped Tuesday night's contest 113-99 to Wayland Baptist.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southwestern was white hot to start, going a perfect 6-6 from three point range and mounted a 15 point lead 25-10 seven minutes in.
  • Wayland Baptist turned up the heat defensively and made quick work of erasing the deficit to take a brief lead, but on the back of Ryan Ogden, who was just one rebound shy of a first half double-double, the Pirates held tight to a three point lead at the break, 53-50. Ogden went 10-12 from the field and 4-4 from three point range and the free throw line for 28 first half points.
  • With 12:14 remaining in the second half the Pioneers took their first lead of the frame 73-71.
  • Turnovers ultimately kept the Pirates from making a run at the win down the stretch as WBU stayed just out of reach.
