Bench Play Lifts Pirates Past Tigers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Southwestern men's basketball got 45 of their 64 points off the bench, defeating Colorado College 64-58 in SCAC action on Friday night. 

It took nearly four minutes for the Pirates to score their first points, but once they did they built their lead to 16 points, 24-8, with 3:33 to play in the first half. Southwestern took a 13 points lead, 29-16, into the locker room for the break.

With a comfortable lead in hand, SU battled off the Tigers' attempts to bring the game even. CC pulled within three points with 20 seconds left on the clock, but Adrian Johnson and Michael Cantu both went 2-2 from the free throw line while the Pirate defense went on lock down to seal the 64-58 win. 

Southwestern committed just nine turnovers in the win while forcing the Tigers into 15 with 10 steals. SU held Colorado College to just 29.8% from the field while shooting 43.1%. Sean Myers led the Pirates with 11 points while Johnson and Chris Lee both added in 10. Colorado College's Chris Lesnansky led all scorers with 18 points. 

The Pirates improve to 7-11 on the year and 3-5 in the SCAC while Colorado College falls to 9-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play. SU heads to Irving, Texas to face the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
