Men's Basketball Narrowly Defeated by Lake Forest

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Just four points kept the Pirates from sweeping tournament action as SU fell to Lake Forest College 53-50 on Sunday afternoon.

Southwestern got off to a slow start, scoring just three points in the opening seven and a half minutes of the contest, but were able to hang close by holding Lake Forest to 10 points in the same time frame.

The Pirates then put together a strong stretch to end the half. Capped off by Nicholas Atiee's three with 39 seconds to go, SU headed into the break down only two, 25-23.

Michael Cantu's layup to start the second half tied the game for the first time since the opening tip. After two more ties Southwestern took their first lead of the game 36-34 on Sean Myers' layup with 10:15 to play.

Back-to-back threes gave the lead back to the Foresters and SU was unable to get consecutive stops in order to overcome the deficit, falling 53-50.

Southwestern held Lake Forest to 38.8% from the field, but shot just 34%. The Pirates committed four fewer turnovers but were outrebounded 40-30.

Myers led all scorers with 14 points while Cantu was the leading rebounder for the game with 11 boards. Jeff Beck led in both categories for the Foresters with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Southwestern falls to 5-7 on the season with the loss while Lake Forest improves to 3-7 on the year. SU returns to action on January 4th as they dive back into SCAC conference action, facing Colorado College at home at 8 p.m.
