SHARP SHOOTING NOT ENOUGH AS PIRATES FALL TO MILLSAPS

JACKSON, Miss. - Despite shooting 56% from the floor, 52.2% from three point range and committing only nine turnovers the Pirates fell to Millsaps College on Saturday night 85-79.

The real difference came from the free throw line as Southwestern only had 16 attempts, converting on 11 while Millsaps went 24-31.

Millsaps led by 10 in the first half and went into the break up by seven, 40-33.

Southwestern was slow to start in the second half as they found themselves down by 13, 50-37 with 15 minutes to play. An 11-1 run by the Pirates with three, three-pointers, brought SU within three 51-48 with 12:23 left.

The Pirates hung close and kept Millsaps within reach, finally tying the game for the fifth time, 68-68, with 3:03 to go after a three pointer by Robbie Hanley (pictured).

Southwestern couldn't get the defensive stop they needed and the Majors closed out the game from the free throw line.

Logan Hurley led all scorers with 24 points while Nick Caputo added in 19 and Hanley 16. Nick Cortese had 22 points to lead Millsaps.

With the loss SU falls to 4-18 on the year and 2-11 in the SCAC.

They return home for their final home games of the season, facing Austin College on Friday night at 8:00 pm.
