PIRATES DROP TWO ON THE ROAD

Austin College and Colorado College handed Southwestern their first two conferences losses this weekend. AC defeated SU 80-77 on Friday night and CC won 107-84 on Sunday. With the losses the Pirates fall to 3-9 on the year and 1-2 in the SCAC.

Austin College started out strong, taking an early 11 point advantage, 19-8, with just over 13 minutes to play in the first half. From that point Southwestern took control of the game and went on a 23-7 run over the next ten minutes and led by five, 31-26. The 'Roos edged ahead, 34-33, and went into the break up one after a last second jumper by Jordan Hancock.

The Pirates' Logan Hurley scored the first four points of the second half before SU hit a cold streak, allowing Austin College to mount a 13 point lead, 62-49, with 7:20 remaining. Southwestern wasn't able to come all the way back despite pulling within two points at three separate times in the final 4:16.

Hurley led all scorers with 24 points going 7-13 from the field, 2-3 from long range, and 8-10 from the free throw line. He was also tied with Nick Caputo (pictured) for a game high nine rebounds. Jonathan Brown added 15 points, Michael Caputo 14 and Robbie Hanley chipped in 11. AC's Hancock led the 'Roos with 20 points.

Southwestern out-rebounded Austin 45-40 but committed eight more turnovers.

Sunday's contest was a shootout from the beginning. SU shot 58.3% from the field and 75% from three point range while Colorado was slightly better from the field at 60% and shot 60% from deep in the first half. The difference maker was 12 of CC's 21 shots made were from long range giving the Tigers a 16 point lead, 58-42, at the break.

Southwestern was never able to get closer than 16 points in the second half as Colorado's spectacular shooting continued. SU ended the game shooting 45.6% from the field and 46.2% from three point while Colorado shot an astounding 61.7% from the field and 55.2% from long range.

Caputo led Southwestern with 27 points on 8-13 shooting from the field and was 6-9 from three point range. Hanley added in 13 points, 12 from three point on 4-5 shooting. Brown also scored 13 points. Colorado's Rose had a game-high 35 points to lead all scorers.

The Pirates return home on Friday to face Hendrix College at 8:00 pm to continue SCAC play.
