COX HONORED AS ARTHUR ASHE, JR SPORTS SCHOLAR

Anthony Cox, a 2010 graduate of Southwestern University, was named as one of twelve men's basketball players nationally, throughout all divisions, as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Diverse Issues in Higher Education Magazine. Cox is the lone SCAC representative on the list.

Diverse Issues in Higher Education "established the Sports Scholars Awards to honor undergraduate student of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination." To be eligible, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2; and be active on their campuses or in their communities.

Cox graduated in 2010, majoring in Business. As a leader on the Pirate men's basketball team he helped SU achieve one of their best records culminating in a return to the SCAC Tournament. He averaged just under seven points per game and led the team in assists with 75 while shooting 43 percent from the floor.
