SOFTBALL RECEIVES FIRST ALL-REGION HONOR

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The 2009 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Region teams were announced and first-year Kaitlyn Pavlicek was a Third Team All-West Region selection. Pavlicek is the first Pirate to earn an All-Region selection in the programs inaugural season.

Pavlicek, a first-year student-athlete from Spring High School in Spring, Texas, is a pitcher and outfielder for Southwestern's softball team. She led the Pirates in slugging percentage (.518), doubles (9), total bases (58), RBI's (23) and homeruns (3) including the first in the school's history.  Pavlicek tied with first-year Blair Wallace for the most hits (40) and was second behind Wallace with a .357 batting average. Pavlicek recorded 9 multi-hit games including two 1.000 batting average games.

In addition to her hitting duties Pavlicek also was a starting pitcher for the Pirates. She had a team best 2.74 era while going 11-6 on the season. In her 125 innings of action she allowed just 110 hits, 58 runs, 38 earned runs. She held opponents to a .228 batting average and struck out 70 batters.

The Pirates ended the season at 19-16 overall and 9-3 in the conference which earned them a trip to the SCAC Conference Tournament as the number one seed in the West.
