PIRATES SPLIT BACK END OF CONFERENCE MATCH-UP

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern softball team splits its doubleheader with Hendrix College on Sunday afternoon at Taylor Sanders Field, winning the first game 8-2 before falling 3-1 in the second game.

The Pirates are now 12-12 overall (3-1 SCAC) while Hendrix College moves its record to 11-14 (2-6 SCAC).

In the first game, the Pirates took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single from Bre Lewis. An inning later the Pirates tacked on another run on an RBI groundout from Blair Wallace to make it a 2-0 contest.

Lewis continued her outstanding game with an RBI double in the fourth inning to extend the Southwestern lead to 3-0. Hendrix answered back in the top of the fifth on a two-run single to cut the Southwestern lead to 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Taylor Turpin's RBI fielder's choice, a two-run fielding error, an RBI groundout from Katelyn Gola, and an RBI single from Wallace contributed to a five-run inning and extended the Pirates' lead to 8-2.

Kaitlyn Pavlicek shut down the Warriors in the seventh to seal the victory for Southwestern.

Pavlicek earned the win for Southwestern after tossing a complete game and allowing two runs and striking out two in seven innings of work.

Lewis led the Pirate offense with a 3-for-3 effort that included two RBI, while Gola, Amanda Ambrose and Aly Pulver each recorded a pair of hits.

In the second game, Hendrix College jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer from Trace Grinnell and added another run in the second on Liz Vaughan's solo homer to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead after two innings.

The Pirates were unable to muster any offense for the first four frames, until Gola's two-out RBI single in the fifth inning cut the Warrior lead to 3-1.

Southwestern was unable to mount a rally in the last two frames, as the Warriors went on to claim the 3-1 victory.

Lyndsy Maus incurred the XX to fall to 5-8. Warriors' starter Vaughan earned the win after pitching the complete game. Pavlicek pitched six scoreless innings in relief for the Pirates.

Gola, Pavlicek, Ambrose and Quincy Meeker each recorded a hit for the Pirates.

Up next, the Pirates travel to face Austin College in Sherman, Texas for a four-game series beginning on Saturday, April 4th.
