Kaitlynn Copher Named SCAC Softball Hitter of the Week

Southwestern University Pirates first baseman Kaitlynn Copher was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Hitter of the Week for her performances from Monday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Mar. 1.

In five games last week, Copher overpowered pitchers with a .588 hitting percentage, racking up 10 hits in 17 at-bats with two walks, knocking in five RBIs and scoring four runs for a .647 slugging percentage.

Against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Copher went 2-for-3 with a walk in the first game of a doubleheader, coming up with the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh in the Pirates' 5-4 victory.

Over the weekend, Copher led the Pirates to a 2-1 series victory over Trinity University to open conference play. The senior from Tomball, Texas hit .583 against the Pirates' conference rivals, producing seven hits in 12 at-bats, scoring four runs with three RBIs.

In 13 games this season, Copher is hitting .429 with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored for a slugging percentage of .524. She is the second consecutive Pirate to win Hitter of the Week, following Tori Montemayor's award last week.

Southwestern is 9-4 this season with a 2-1 record in conference play. The Pirates are scheduled to host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. They will resume conference play with a three-game series at home against Austin College on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.
