Pirates Secure Post Season Spot With Pair of Wins

IRVING, Texas - With two wins over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon the Southwestern softball team firmed up a spot in the SCAC Conference Tournament. The Pirates won game one 8-2 before posting a 6-0 shutout in game two.

Southwestern opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs, but Dallas evened the count with a 2 RBI single by Castro in the third. A perfect squeeze bunt by Taylor Turpin in the fourth brought home Tessa Galloway and gave the Pirates the lead 3-2.

With the lead in hand the Pirates continued to pull away, posting one more run in the fifth before a huge seventh inning final push, capped off by a two-run homerun by Jessica Bryant

Lyndsy Maus recorded her 12th win of the season, going seven innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Kady Freshour was huge at the plate, going 3-4 while Ashleigh Scott and Galloway both went 2-3 in game one. No Crusader posted more than one hit.

SU wasted no time taking the lead in game two and used a steady stream of scoring to easily win, posting one run in the first and fifth innings and two in both the third and sixth.

Maus just got stronger as the game went on and posted a three hit shut out. She walked no batters and struck out three for her 13th win. Haley Hughes led the charge at the plate going 3-4  in game two with two RBIs.
