TORNADOS AND PIRATES SPLIT NON-CONFERENCE GAMES

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Southwestern's softball team split non-conference games with Concordia University on Wednesday evening, winning game one 5-1 and then falling 9-3 in game two of the double header. The Pirates are now 21-10 on the season.

Concordia got on the scoreboard early, scoring one run in the first inning, and held Southwestern scoreless through five innings. SU would not be held down, however, as they scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh.

First-year Haley Hughes took care of the runs in the sixth herself with a two-run homerun to left center, her fourth of the season.

In the seventh inning the Pirates scored all six runs with two outs, further extending their lead and sealing the victory.

Southwestern scored early in game two, but so did Concordia as the Tornados took a slight 3-1 lead after two innings of play, and then went on a scoring spree in the fifth to push the lead to six, 8-2. CUA added one run in the sixth while the Pirates could only score one in the seventh as Concordia won 9-3.

Taylor Turpin has a great afternoon at the plate with a 4-6 performance and two stolen bases on two attempts. Amanda Ambrose was 2-4 with one run and one RBI. Kara Solomon got the win in game one while Lyndsy Maus garnered the loss in game two.

The Pirates close non-conference action on Sunday at the University of Dallas. Game one of the double header is set to begin at 2:00 pm.
