PAVLICEK NAMED TO ALL-SCAC SOFTBALL FIRST TEAM; FROBOESE EARNS COACH OF THE YEAR

First year Kaitlyn Pavlicek was selected to the first team All-SCAC Softball team and head coach Angela Froboese was named as the SCAC Coach of the Year after their inaugural season in exclusive voting by the league's head coaches on Thursday. Junior Katelyn Gola, first-year Blair Wallace and first-year Taylor Turpin also earned all-conference honors as Honorable Mention selections.

Pavlicek, a pitcher and outfielder from Spring, Texas, was a first team selection for pitchers where she led the Pirates with a 2.74 era while finishing with an 11-6 record. Pavlicek was also a constant offensively, posting the second best batting average at .357, tied for most hits (40), first in doubles (9), and home runs (3).

Joining Pavlicek in the report were honorable mention selections Gola, Wallace, and Turpin.

Gola, a junior transfer from Howard Payne University, held down the third base line and consistently held hitters at bay with her fielding. She boasts a .958 fielding percentage and led the team in assists with 84.

In left field was first year Blair Wallace from Abilene, Texas. Wallace led the Pirates in hitting this season with a .377 batting average and was tied with Pavlicek for the most hits. She was second in doubles and led SU in on base percentage, getting on safely nearly half of the time.

Turpin, a centerfielder from Tehuacana, Texas, rounds out the honorable mention selections for Southwestern. Turpin started all 35 games this season and was third on the team with a .337 batting average. She also led the team in stolen bases, reaching safely in 15 of her 16 attempts.

Coach Froboese guided the Pirates to a 9-3 record in the conference and a first place finish in the Western Division in its inaugural season. The Pirates posted an overall record of 19-16 including advancing to the third round of the conference championship before falling to Rhodes 2-0.
