Beretich Earns First Win as Head Coach, Kurth Scores Ten on Augsburg

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Lacrosse (0-1) competed in their second game of the season against the Augsburg University Eagles (1-4) on Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates showed out in a day that culminated in many milestones for the 2024 season. Not only was it the first win of the season, but Taylor Beretich, the first-year head coach for Southwestern, gained her inaugural win as leader of the women's lacrosse program. In addition, senior Raquel Kurth broke her career high in goals with ten in the game, tying the women's lacrosse program record for goals in a game set by Raven Garcia in 2021. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kurth filled her stat line with ten goals, seven ground balls, seven draw controls, and five caused turnovers.
  • Cecilla Cantu was second on the team in scoring with three goals. Cantu also broke her career high in points with four, adding an assist. 
  • Susette Mireles capped off the Pirates' scoring with two goals on three shots taken.

NOTES

  • Southwestern won 14/30 draw controls in the game and scooped up thirty ground balls.
  • The Pirates converted on 100% of their free position attempts (4-4).
  • The Pirates cleared at 12/25 during the contest compared to 11/18 for Augsburgs.
