Women's Lacrosse Advances To SCAC Championship Game

IRVING, Texas — Southwestern women's lacrosse opened its SCAC Championship Tournament with a dominant performance over the host University of Dallas Crusaders, winning 23-1 to advance to the SCAC Championship game. 

Raven Garcia reached double-digit points for the second time in the past three games, scoring five goals on seven shots and dishing out five assists in leading the Pirates. 

The Pirates scored the first 12 goals of the contest, taking 26 shots in the first half while limiting Dallas to just four before the break. Southwestern was suffocating defensively, limiting Dallas to just three clears on 12 attempts in the half, taking a 16-1 lead. 

Southwestern slowed its pace in the second half, taking just 10 shots, but kept the defensive pressure up, allowing just five from Dallas while holding the Crusaders scoreless over the final 30 minutes. 

The Pirates won 17 of the 26 draw controls, with Deanna Hames leading the way with seven. The sophomore midfielder was also a force for the Pirates on offense, scoring four goals on six shots with three assists. Emma Pertuit won four draw controls with a team-high five ground balls, two goals, and two assists. 

Southwestern limited Dallas to 12 clears on 27 attempts while going 28-for-33. The Pirates overwhelmed Dallas with a 36-9 advantage in shots taken, putting 30 on goal. 

Tessa Lewis started as the goalkeeper for the Pirates and finished with three saves to pick up the win. Sofia Valdespino took over to start the second half, stopping both Dallas shots on goal. 

Southwestern improves to 6-4 with the win, heading into the conference championship game with a three-game winning streak. The Pirates will face Colorado College on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
