Women's Lacrosse Yields to Sewanee in Season Opener

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Women's Lacrosse (0-0) opened up their season on Sunday, March 10th, against the Sewanee Tigers (6-1) at Puett Field in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Pirates got the better of the Tigers in 2023, but the Tigers opened up with an eight-goal first quarter while limiting the Pirates to just one goal. Southwestern outscored the Tigers in the second quarter, but the Tiger offense would prove to be too much the rest of the way, taking the 19-9 victory over the Pirates. 

HIGHLIGHTS 

  • The Pirates were led by senior Raquel Kurth, who scored a career-high six goals against the Tigers with eight draw controls on her stat line.
  • Cecilla Cantu was second on the team in points, scoring two goals with one assist and adding six draw controls. 
  • Lilie-Rose Gilbert added one goal to the Pirate's nine total.  

NOTES

  • Freshman goaltender Emma Bethke collected double-digit saves against the Tigers with ten. 
  • The Pirates only lost two draw controls in the afternoon, winning fifteen against the Tigers' seventeen.
  • The Tigers and the Pirates committed fifteen time-serving penalties throughout the game, five for the Pirates and ten for the Tigers.
