Women's Lacrosse Goes Undefeated at Home, Raven Garcia Has Career Day

Senior attacker Raven Garcia came into her final home game, trailing the all-time points record at Southwestern by only one point. To break the record held by Hayley Donnelly, Garcia needed just two goals or assists. Garcia did more than break the record in Sunday's game. She passed the record for points outstandingly, scoring four goals and three assists in the Pirates' win over Dallas on the Pirates' Senior Day. With 113 goals and 67 assists in her career, Garcia brings her total to 180 points. Garcia sits three goals behind Kaitlyn Campbell, who owns the career record for goals at 116; she also sits one assist behind Hayley Donnelly, who holds the record at 68 assists.

It was all Pirates throughout the entirety of the game. The team jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter. At the 11:23 mark in the first, Raven Garcia tied the career record for points when she found Raquel Kurth cutting across the crease for a shot and a goal. Then at 5:45 left in the quarter, Garcia scooped up a loose ground ball, weaved through traffic in front of the goal, found herself open, shot, and scored to give herself the career points record at Southwestern. All in all, Garcia accomplished an amazing feat, highlighted by the fact that it occured on Senior Day and the last home game of her career.

By the end of the first half, the Pirates increased their lead to 17-0. The Pirates took the ball away from the Crusaders exceptionally well, causing 15 turnovers in the contest. Anytime the Crusaders had the ball, the Pirates jumped all over them to win the ball back. Sierra Rupp had three caused turnovers, Natasha Perez-Krause had three, and DeAnna Hames had four caused turnovers. In addition to her three caused turnovers, Rupp led the team in ground balls with five, followed by Emma Pertuit with four.

The game was all but over by the end of the third period as the Pirates led the Crusaders by 20-2. The Pirates had multiple players with a multi-goal game. Three Pirates achieved four goals, including Garcia, Hames, and Raquel Kurth. A host of other Pirates scored, including Caden Laflamme-Szakonyi, who recorded the first goal of her career. By the end of the contest, the scoreboard read 26-2, which tied their previous record for goals scored in a single game.

The Pirates were a perfect 8-0 at Varsity Field this season. They will play their final two matches on the road, the first being against the University of Wisconsin - River Falls on Friday, April 15th, at 5:00 PM.
