Women's Lacrosse Defeats Dallas in 18-7 Victory

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The Southwestern University women's lacrosse team scored a resounding 18-7 win over the University of Dallas Crusaders in their last regular-season game on Sunday afternoon.

The Southwestern offense dominated the first half, scoring 13 goals. Deanna Hames led the Pirates with four of her game-high of six goals before the break. Emma Pertuit, Raquel Kurth, and Raven Garcia scored two goals each to help extend the Pirates' lead. Southwestern outdid Dallas by winning 12 of the 16 draw controls. The Pirate defense, led by goalie Sofia Valdespino, held the Crusaders scoreless until the last four minutes of the first half to take a 13-3 lead into the break.

Kurth and Natasha Perez-Krause worked together in the second half, assisting each other for two back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 15-3. Dallas found a window to slip past the Pirate defense and take three more goals, but the Pirates retained a nine-point lead. Southwestern quickly answered back. Hames scored two more goals, and Liana Collins scored her second goal of the game. Dallas was able to generate one last goal in the final minute, but the Pirates remained firmly in control and let the clock run to clinch a regular-season winning record.

Highlights from the game included Collins and Garcia picking up four ground balls each and Collins forcing two caused turnovers. Skye George, who is usually on the defense protecting the cage, scored her first career goal.

Up next, Southwestern women's lacrosse will get ready to compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Lacrosse Championships. Dallas will host the tournament in Irving, Texas, on the weekend of May 1-2.
