Women’s Lacrosse 4-0 Headed into Spring Break

The Southwestern Women's Lacrosse team has commanded Varsity Field so far this season, taking down every team that has made the trip to Georgetown.

The Northwestern - St. Paul Eagles stood very little chance early on against Southwestern. The Pirates' jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, riding hard against the Eagles anytime they had a clearing opportunity. The relentless ride from the Pirates' ensured the Eagles had very few possessions throughout the game. The Pirates' caused fourteen of the Eagles twenty-three turnovers, never allowing them to get comfortable with the ball.

At the end of the first half six different Pirates were able to find the back of the net. Raven Garcia had three goals and Deanna Hames, Kate Vlasek, Emma Pertuit, and Sierra Rupp each had two goals as well. The second quarter ended 12-0 with the Pirates' well in control of the game.

The Pirates' offense continued to run through Raven Garcia who ended her day with seven assists and four goals. Deanna Hames was the highest goal scorer of the day, netting five total goals, three of which were assisted by Garcia. Hames also had six draw controls for the contest.

Almost every Pirate contributed in stealing ground balls away from the Eagles, fifteen Pirates' added ground balls to their stat column and twelve of them had multiple ground balls. Despite their overwhelming possession time, Southwestern limited their turnovers to only 14, showing poise and willingness to get into their offensive sets to find good opportunities without throwing the ball away.

The Pirates' went on to win the game by a margin of 20-1, Emma Synder of the Eagles scored with only three minutes left in the game, preventing the Pirate shutout.

Women's lacrosse heads to California to compete against the Cal-Lutheran Regals, Wednesday March 16th at 7:00 PM CST.
