Tape, Grosso Highlight IWLS Honors

GEORGETOWN, Texas - In exclusive voting by the independent schools head coaches Head Coach Matthew Grosso was selected as Co-Coach of the Year while first-year Julia Tape was selected as Rookie of the Year. This is Grosso's second consecutive season earning the award and the first for Tape. Southwestern also landed two players on the first team, two on the second team and three honorable mention selections. 

Grosso led the Pirates to a 5-11 overall record this season. He shares the award with Colorado College's Susan Stuart. 

Tape was third on the team in caused turnovers with 27 on the season and was arguably one of Southwestern's most tenacious defenders. She also collected 34 ground balls this season. Her game highs came against Concordia-Wisconsin where she collected six groundballs and caused five turnovers. Tape was also an All-IWLS Second Team defender. 

Allison Cook and Grace Maynard earned All-IWLS First Team honors at the midfield this season. Cook spent most of the year in the top ten nationally in caused turnovers per game and ground balls per game, averaging 3.4 caused turnovers and 5.1 ground balls per game to lead the team. An offensive powerhouse as well, Cook was sixth on the team in goals (17) and third in assists (13) with a team high 59 draw controls. 

Maynard was third on the team in scoring with 29 goals and added 16 assists which tied for the team high. Maynard did much of the work that doesn't show in the statistics but trailed only Cook in caused turnovers (40) and ground balls (55). 

Joining Tape on the All-IWLS Second Team is junior attack Hayley Donnelly. Donnelly started all 16 contests and was second on the team in scoring with 33 goals. Her 16 assists tied her for the team high with Maynard and gave her a team-leading 49 points on the season. Donnelly also posted five draw controls, ten caused turnovers and 16 ground balls this season. 

Ronni Winter, Brenna Jobb and Lacey Bowersox were honorable mention selections. Winter led the Pirates in scoring with 37 goals on the season and was second in draw controls with 35. Jobb was fourth in scoring, posting 26 goals, adding 43 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. Bowersox headed up the Pirate defense. She was fourth in the team in ground balls (36) and fifth in caused turnovers with 20 on the year.
