AZIZI SCORES 22 OF PIRATES 37 POINTS IN LOSS TO CENTRE

Southwestern scored the first basket of the game but would never lead again as the Pirates lose on the road to Centre College Friday night, 58-37.

The Pirates out-rebounded Centre College 44-41, but committed 9 more turnovers than the Colonels in the game. Southwestern was down by 16 going into halftime and was able to pull within 9 points, 37-28, with 13:55 left in the game on a three pointer by freshman forward Taylin Eckols. Centre responded by going on a 11-0 run over the next three minutes to push the lead to 20. The Pirates would never get closer.

Senior forward Natasha Azizi was the lone Pirate in double figures, scoring 22 of SU's 37 points in the game. Junior guard Jessica Herbst pulled down 10 boards to lead the Pirates and sophomore center Staley Mullins had two block on the night to bring her season total to 52. She is just 3 blocks shy of breaking into the top ten for the SCAC season blocks record.

The loss drops the Pirates to 5-14 overall and 1-8 in SCAC conference action. They look to return to their winning ways as they face off against DePauw on the road on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
