The Pirates returned to the Robertson Center after a brief trip to Colorado to take on the Schreiner Mountaineers, who currently rank third in the conference with a 5-2 record.

The Pirates had a tough time scoring early, only managing three points in the first quarter, but the team was able to keep the Mountaineers close by only allowing twelve points.

Still unable to gain traction on offense, the Pirates fell to as much as a twenty-one-point deficit in the second quarter. After a few defensive stops with two minutes left in half, the Pirates were able to string together ten points to cut the Mountaineer lead to twelve points. The Mountaineers would go into halftime leading Southwestern 29-17.

Schreiner would come out hot in the third quarter, scoring 26 points, the most either team would score in a quarter for the contest. The Mountaineers were able to extend their lead to twenty-two points with a third-quarter score of 55-33.

It was more of the same from Schreiner in the fourth quarter. The Mountaineers were incredibly efficient all game and went 42 percent from the field while also shooting 42 percent from beyond the three-point line. The Mountaineers extended their lead further in the fourth quarter, with the final score coming in at 77-49.

Double-digit scorers for the Pirates include Jay Hollie, who scored thirteen points while going 4-6 from the free throw line and 4-9 from the field. Aniyah Burke scored ten for Southwestern, also collecting five rebounds and a team-high three assists.

The Pirates have a quick turnaround as they face the number two team in the country, Trinity University, on Saturday, January 14th, at 4:00 PM.
