GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern women's basketball team had a flair for the dramatic this weekend, winning their second overtime game in a row against the University of Dallas Crusaders in the Robertson Center.

It's easy to say the Pirates wouldn't have beaten the Crusaders without the help of first-year guard Aniyah Burke. Burke scored a season-high and game-high 28 points for the Pirates. Burke's numbers were off the charts, shooting 62.5 percent from the field, 6-8 from the free throw line, and adding six rebounds to her performance.

The Pirates jumped out to a ten-point lead by the end of the first quarter. With the score at 18-8 at the end of the first, the Pirates seemed to have control of the game. However, the Dallas offense began to spread the ball around and put together 17 points, closing the gap to the Pirates by the end of the second quarter. The Pirates saw their lead disappear and would go into halftime with just a 29-25 lead.

The Crusaders continued to expand on their offensive production in the second half, scoring three, three-pointers, shooting 57 percent from the field, and racking up 21 points in the third quarter. The Crusaders were only up by one point heading into the fourth, hanging on to a 46-45 lead.

The final quarter was evenly matched thanks to Burke and Ellie Ward, who scored over half the fourth quarter points for the Pirates. Ward scored six points and also added three assists alone in the fourth, directing the offense and the Pirates to take the lead against the Crusaders in the final minute. But Dallas was relentless, and the Crusaders tied the game at 60-60 with just under a minute remaining in regulation. Four quarters of play would end all tied up, and the Pirates went to OT for the second night in a row.

Just like the previous night against Austin College, the Pirates looked comfortable with the pressure of overtime. Burke and Ward were in complete control of the situation, each of them leading the way for the Pirate offense. Burke scored six points in the overtime period, while Ward made both of her free throws and field goal to give her four points. Midway through the overtime period, the Pirates took the lead and never looked back, holding off the Crusaders and taking a 67-71 victory over Dallas.
