Newcomers Shine In Women's Track & Field's Season Opener

SAN ANTONIO — Southwestern women's track & field opened the season with four top-five finishes at the Trinity Invitational, including two top-three finishes and a new school record in the high jump. 

On the first day of the event, Charlotte Kraushaar had a spectacular debut for the Pirates, placing second in the high jump with a Southwestern-record 1.47m, topping Cara Sheffer's mark of 1.37m set in 2012. The junior transfer heptathlete also had top-10 finishes in the javelin throw (ninth, 30.44m) and long jump (4.94m) and placed 23rd in the shot put (8.52m). 

Freshman Arden Neff was solid in her first collegiate event, placing third in the 400 hurdles (1:09.14) and helping the 4x100 relay team to a fifth-place finish (50.94) along with Erica Robuck, Lauren Mackrell, and Dejahnae Thompson

Sophomore Tiamara Hill-Johnson picked up where she left last season as the program's first All-Region athlete with a fifth-place finish in the discus (39.71m), besting her SCAC Championship-winning distance last spring (39.57m). She also competed in the shot put, placing 22nd (8.89m). 

Keamber McCracken placed 7th in the 400 hurdles (1:12.50), Taylor Hubbard finished eighth in the javelin (30.93m), and Jessie Chiella placed 10th in the 100 hurdles (17.52) and 14th in the 400 hurdles (1:20.22). 

Southwestern will travel to Abilene, Texas, on Thursday, March 17, to compete in the three-day Abilene Christian University Wes Kittley Invitational.
